The very same  big band sound that filled America's dance and concert halls over a half century ago is alive and swingin' right here baby!

Mitch Hawley - Tenor Saxophone

Doctor Mitch Hawley started out in his youth wanting to play professional baseball, and actually realized that dream, going through Spring training with several major league teams who asked that their names not be used. Mitch must have hurt something in his foot, because he ended up being a prominent podiatric physician in Redding instead of throwing fastballs. The trade off works well, however, because he and his beautiful wife, Cheryl, settled in Redding to raise their children in Redding, and we got him to play with us in the Straight Ahead Big Band.  You can hear Mitch's fine tenor solos on our CDs or at our concerts, and get him talking about baseball during the breaks in our performances.  The photo above was taken at Mitch's grandfather's 90th birthday party in Red Bluff, 7/14/2007.
